Can I get a mortgage with bad credit?

I am currently paying some storage cards and credit cards which got into a bit of a mess of a couple of years ago! But me and my partner has been thinking about buying a house. I worry that I will not get a mortgage because of my bad credit! Are there any mortgage providers that still give me a mortgage or take into account the fact that I'm in control of my debts and the right way to clean?
